How to Choose & Wear an Oversized Men's Tee: A Practical Guide for Indian Men

Why Oversized Sizing Confuses People

The most common question we get: "Should I size up or buy my regular size?" The answer depends on how the garment is cut. Oversized tees are not simply a bigger version of a regular tee — they are intentionally designed with dropped shoulders, wider bodies, and longer hemlines. Understanding these design choices helps you decide exactly which size works for the look you want.

The Three Fit Definitions You Need to Know

Slim fit follows the body closely through the chest and waist. Shoulder seams sit at the natural shoulder point. This is what most traditional Indian sizing assumes.

Regular/relaxed fit has a little extra room in the chest and torso without dramatically changing proportions. Shoulder seams still land near the natural shoulder.

Oversized fit — the style this guide focuses on — has a visibly dropped shoulder seam (it falls below your natural shoulder, often by 3–6 cm), a wider chest and torso, and a longer body length. The drop creates the relaxed, streetwear-adjacent silhouette that makes oversized tees distinctive.

Shoulder Seam: The Most Important Measurement

The shoulder seam position is the single clearest indicator of how "oversized" a tee actually is. Here is how to read it:

  • Natural shoulder (0 cm drop): Structured, slim or regular fit.
  • 2–3 cm drop: Slightly relaxed, casual feel. Shoulder seam sits just past the shoulder bone.
  • 4–6 cm drop: Clearly oversized. The sleeve opening falls noticeably down the upper arm.
  • 7 cm+ drop: Very oversized / boxy. A deliberate style statement.

When in doubt, check the product's shoulder width measurement against your own shoulder-to-shoulder measurement (taken across your upper back). An oversized fit will typically measure 5–8 cm wider than your actual shoulder width.

Sleeve Length

For a classic oversized short-sleeve tee, the sleeve should reach roughly mid-bicep to just above the elbow. If the sleeve ends at the top of your bicep, the tee is likely too small or cut as a regular fit. If it covers the elbow, the tee is in cropped-sleeve or long-fit territory — a stylistic choice, not a sizing error.

Body Length

Oversized tees typically run 5–8 cm longer than equivalent regular-fit tees. For most Indian men of average height (5'6"–5'10"), a well-proportioned oversized hem lands between the hip bone and mid-thigh. Going longer creates a longline silhouette; shorter hems (still dropped shoulder) give a boxier, cropped-oversized look.

Size Selection Table — Neither's Variants

The table below maps chest measurements to the sizes available across Neither's tee range. These are the four sizes stocked: S, M, L, XL. For an oversized fit, many wearers choose one size up from their regular fitted size; the right call depends on how much drop and width you want.

Size Chest (to fit) Recommended for oversized look
S 36–38 in / 91–96 cm Best for those with a 34–36 in chest who want a relaxed, not boxy, drape
M 38–40 in / 96–101 cm Works well for 36–38 in chests wanting a balanced oversized fit
L 40–42 in / 101–107 cm Good for 38–40 in chests; provides a clearly dropped, roomy look
XL 42–44 in / 107–112 cm For 40–42 in chests or anyone wanting a very roomy, statement oversized fit

Note: Always check the specific product's size chart for exact measurements — cut and fabric weight can affect final fit.

A Note on Fabric Weight and Supima Cotton

Fabric weight affects how an oversized tee drapes and holds its shape. Heavier fabrics (typically 200 GSM and above) hold their structure, which means the dropped shoulder and boxy silhouette remain visible and defined even after washing. Lighter fabrics drape more softly and cling slightly more.

Some tees in the Neither range use Supima cotton, a long-staple cotton grown primarily in the United States. Long-staple fibres produce a smoother yarn with less surface fuzz, which translates to a softer initial hand feel and better colour retention over time compared to standard short-staple cotton. Like all natural cotton, Supima cotton benefits from cold-water washing and line drying to maintain its properties. Check individual product pages for fabric composition and care instructions.

Below are some of the tees currently available. Each comes in S, M, L, and XL.

Quick Summary

Check the shoulder seam drop first — that tells you more about the actual fit than the chest measurement alone. For a clearly oversized look, size up one from your usual fitted size. Sleeve hem should land at mid-bicep to above the elbow. Body length should clear the hip bone. Heavier fabrics hold the oversized shape better. When specific product measurements are available, use them — they will always be more accurate than general guidance.
